York County deputies joining the search for attempted murder suspect

The York County Sheriff’s Office is assisting York police in searching for man wanted in connection with two separate shootings.

Anthony Christopher Shannon Jr., 22, is wanted on two counts each of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, officials say.

Shannon, who goes by “Ant,” is accused in the July 4 shooting of a male acquaintance in the 100 block of Hickory Lane in York, authorities say. Shannon fled before police arrived, but York police Chief Andy Robinson said the incident was witnessed by a large group of people.

Investigators say Shannon shot another male acquaintance July 23 in the 400 block of California Street in York. The shooting happened around 10:45 a.m., and authorities say Shannon again fled before officers arrived.

The sheriff’s office announced Thursday that its anti-crime team is joining in the search for Shannon.

A York police spokesman said the search for Shannon is not related to Monday’s fatal shooting on Mighty Joe Trail.

Shannon is around 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds. His last known address is on Hickory Lane in York but he is known to frequent Rock Hill, Charlotte and Gastonia, N.C. He should be considered armed and dangerous, authorities say.

Anyone with information on Shannon is asked to call York County Crime Stoppers at 877-409-4321. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
