Clover armed robbery suspect makes off with cash, cigarettes

An armed suspect made off with cash and cigarettes after holding up a Clover convenience store early Monday, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The robbery happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Hot Spot on U.S. 321 in Clover, according to a sheriff’s report. The store employee told deputies she was in the back room when she heard “what sounded like the cycling of a gun” and turned around to see a man wearing a blue hoodie and sunglasses pointing a gun at her.

The employee said she opened the cash register as instructed and gave the suspect cash, deputies said. The suspect reportedly told the employee to give him a bag and put some Newport cigarettes in it. He then fled on foot.

A K-9 team tracked the suspect’s scent across U.S. 321 to Dulin Road, where officers found a blue sweatshirt lying in the middle of S.C. 55, the report states.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a blue hoodie and sunglasses. He was also wearing long dark shorts and off-white gloves.
