Riverwalk Academy’s new crop of students rang in the school year with inflatables, food trucks and time with their soon-to-be teachers.

Riverwalk Academy, a public K-12 charter school in Rock Hill, held a meet and greet Aug. 14 for parents and students. More than 1,000 community members came out to see the school and meet with faculty and staff, said Matt Stratton, director of marketing and development for Riverwalk.

The event was deemed a “huge success,” Stratton said.

Riverwalk’s staff this year is focused on one-to-one technology, a friendly code of conduct and project-based learning, he said.

“Riverwalk Academy parents complimented the efforts towards communication but also academic rigor and responsible character education after attending the event,” Stratton said.

Riverwalk Academy is still accepting applications for the 2017-18 school year. Not all grades have openings, but families may apply or schedule a tour, Stratton said.
