York Preparatory Academy is restarting its search for a new managing director.
Craig Craze, chairman of the school’s Board of Directors, said Friday the process has been reopened after the board considered three candidates.
The board, Craze said, was interested in a candidate, which he did not name. That candidate got a promotion at his current school and decided not to come to the Rock Hill charter school, Craze said.
Candidates initially considered to replace Clay Eaton, who resigned in August, were Wade Glathar, principal of Ascent Academies of Utah; Charles Sachs, head of the Chadwick International School in Incheon, South Korea, and Kevin McIntyre, assistant superintendent for Milford Public Schools in Massachusetts.

McIntyre withdrew earlier in the process, according to former board chairman Abram Cramer.
Craze said York Prep has hired Brian Carpenter, a national consultant on charter schools, to assist with the search and help York Prep prepare for the upcoming school year.
Craze said the York Prep board is considering a “pool of candidates,” but did not elaborate. He said the search “will take as long as necessary.”
York Prep is looking for its fifth managing director since opening in 2010. The previous four managing directors each served for one year or less.
York Prep is a public charter school and receives state tax support. The school’s board is organized under the South Carolina Public Charter School District. York Prep operates separately from other public school districts in York County. Parents and school staff members elect York Prep board members.
