It’s time for York, Chester and Lancaster County parents to register their children for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten.

Children must be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020 to register for pre-kindergarten and five years old by Sept. 1 for kindergarten.

Parents will need to provide documentation at their child’s school to complete registration, according to the districts. Documents required include two proofs of residence that list the name and address of the parent or legal guardian, the child’s immunization record dated within the last year and proof of birth such as a birth certificate.

Schools closed for the rest of March due to coronavirus, or COVID-19, concerns, The Herald previously reported.

Five-year-old kindergarten registration can be completed online.

Fort Mill schools

Kindergarten registration is open for Fort Mill students. Parents must first register their children online either on the district’s website or the child’s elementary school website.

While registering students online, parents will need to make an academic screening appointment for their child, according to the district.

For more information, call the child’s elementary school or the school district at 803-548-2527.

Clover schools

Parents can register children online starting Feb. 27. Rising kindergarten students who attended a Clover school district pre-kindergarten program will register using the returning student registration link with a code provided by the school, according to the district.

Children new to the Clover school district will register using the new student registration link.

York schools

The York school district kindergarten registration carnival originally scheduled for March 19 has been postponed due to coronavirus closures.

A new date for the carnival has not been set, according to the district.

At the carnival, parents will schedule an appointment for registration and screening for their child as well as receive information on what is required for registration, according to the district. Parents can also sign children up for summer programs.

Children can enjoy inflatables and receive books at the carnival. A hot dog dinner will be available to the first 500 attendees.

For more information, call the school district at 803-684-9916.

Chester County schools

For four-year-old kindergarten, the child must live in Chester County and parents must verify they have Medicaid or an annual income of 185% or below the federal poverty guidelines, according to the district.

“The Pre-K program priority is to serve economic at-risk children first. Any slots that have not been filled with eligible children may be filled with academic at-risk students or special education children (inclusion model) that do not meet the economic eligibility,” reads the district’s website.

Pre-kindergarten enrollment is capped at 20 students per class, according to the district. Students will be put on a waiting list once classes fill.

Children must attend a screening for four-year-old kindergarten. Parents will be notified of screening dates and times at a later date.
