York Tech’s unused medical supplies find new purpose amid coronavirus pandemic
York Technical College’s unused medical supplies will help a local hospital during the coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic.
The Rock Hill college donated gowns, gloves, face shields and other medical supplies to Piedmont Medical Center, a release states.
“The donation will help offset the shortage and backorder of medical supplies and help keep healthcare professionals safe as they continue to care for the community during the pandemic,” states the release.
The college’s health programs typically use the supplies. Due to the virus, York Tech is not holding classes on campus.
“As we all find ourselves amid this unfortunate crisis, York Technical College wanted to make good use of the items the College had that were currently not being utilized,” York Technical College President Greg Rutherford said in a prepared statement. “The College acknowledges and admires all of the hard work of healthcare workers and the efforts being made all around the world as they continue to keep our families safe.”
York Tech also plans to donate medical supplies from the Chester campus to area facilities in need, the release states.
