Rock Hill church donates $2K to pay lunch balances for graduates

A Rock Hill church has paid off the lunch accounts of graduating seniors.

Impact Church, led by Pastor Jason Brinkley, donated $2,119.26 to the district to pay negative lunch account balances for graduating seniors, according to a post on the district’s Facebook page.

The donation helped 451 seniors.

The church’s donation is the latest in a wave of efforts by York County community members to honor the Class of 2020.

Due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, schools were forced to close in March. That meant seniors missed out on prom, athletic events and other activities that typically mark the end of high school.

Districts had to be creative with graduations, using football stadiums and a drive-in theater.

The Herald was unable to reach a member of Impact Church for a comment Friday afternoon.
