A school bus in Lancaster County was involved in a crash Wednesday in Indian Land, officials said.

The crash happened Wednesday morning around a mile north of Indian Land High School on U.S. 521, said Darren Player, Lancaster County Emergency Management and Fire/Rescue director. Lancaster County firefighters assisted at the scene, Player said.

The Indian Land High School bus had just started a route and had picked up one child, said Bryan Vaughn, Director of Transportation and Safety for the Lancaster County School District.

Neither the child nor the driver were hurt, Vaughan said.

The bus had picked up the one passenger when it was rear-ended by another vehicle, Vaughan said.

The collision snarled traffic in both directions as S.C. Highway Patrol troopers, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies, emergency workers and school officials responded to the scene.

The highway patrol is investigating the wreck, according to school and emergency officials and the highway patrol Web site.

Details about the crash, including any injuries to other vehicles involved, have not yet been released by the highway patrol.
