No foul play after custodian found dead at high school in York police say

Foul play is not suspected after a custodian at a South Carolina high school was found dead Tuesday, police said.

The custodian found deceased in the janitor’s office space at York Comprehensive High School was identified as Albert Palmer, 71, of Rock Hill, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast.

Police were called around 9:30 a.m. to the school inside the city limits of York, said Sgt. David Dover, spokesman for the York Police Department.

Palmer was located in the area where custodians work and was not seen by any students, Dover said.

“There is no indication of foul play,” Dover said.

York Comprehensive High School is the sole high school in the York school district west of Rock Hill.

In a statement, the district said counselors were made available to students and staff.

“Mr. Al Palmer was an important member of our school and will be greatly missed,” the statement said. “We extend our collective thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time.”

The incident remains under investigation by the coroner and police department.
