A seat is open on the York School District 1 board. How leaders plan to fill it
The York School District has a board seat open. Applicants have until Aug. 18 to apply.
A resignation for the Seat 5 position leaves the board with six members. Seat 5 includes the southwestern portion of the district. It’s just south of Sharon and includes Bullocks Creek and McConnells.
Geographically, it’s the largest of the districts represented by the five seats.
Tracy Miskelly resigned after being elected to the seat in 2020. Miskelly taught in public schools and served as director of Ag in the Classroom for the South Carolina Farm Bureau. According to a Linkenin profile, Miskelly started a job this month within the Rock Hill School District.
Miskelly said Friday the resignation in York and new role in Rock Hill weren’t related.
“I needed to focus more on my own family and health,” Miskelly said. “Being a good board member is quite the time commitment, which was especially hard on me with young children, one who was born while I served.”
Miskelly said the opportunity then arose in Rock Hill. A product of York schools, Miskelly said it was an honor to serve a strong district there.
Anyone who lives in that area and applies by Aug. 18 is eligible for board appointment to the seat. The board will interview candidates and select one to fill the rest of a four-year term, through November 2024.
The district website has an application posted.
Interviews will begin Aug. 22. The board should approve the new member on Sept. 12.
