York SC school evacuated after note claimed bomb in building, district and police say
Officials evacuated a school in York on Thursday after a note found in a bathroom claimed there was a bomb in the building, district officials said.
A student at York Intermediate School on Johnson Road found the note around 10:45 a.m. in a girls restroom, school officials told parents in a release also posted on York school district social media. The school serves fifth and sixth grades.
In a statement released Friday, the York Police Department said no device was found. York police chief Brian Trail said officers searched the school and detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made.
Law enforcement responded as students were taken to York Comprehensive High School by bus so parents could pick them up, said LaToya Dixon, a York school district assistant superintendent and district spokesperson.
No one was hurt and all students and staff were evacuated safely, the district said.
York County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Johnathan Gilbert said deputies assisted with traffic and other safety measures.
The school is located on the southern edge of York along U.S. 321. The York school district, with 10 campuses, is one of four school districts in York County.
The school resumed a regular schedule Friday, the district said.
