Fort Mill police are investigating how one round of ammunition wound up in a girls’ restroom at Nation Ford High School Thursday morning.

Officials don’t believe the situation posed danger to students due to the “circumstances and the location” where the ammunition was found, Principal Chris Chandler said in an email to families.

A student found the item and immediately reported it to administrators, who notified the school resource officer. It wasn’t immediately clear what type of ammunition officials found in the bathroom. A round of ammunition contains a bullet or other projectile before it’s been fired.

“We take these situations seriously and want to remind all students and families that bringing any prohibited items to school is a violation of district policy and will result in disciplinary action,” Chandler said. “We commend the student who reported the item and appreciate the swift response of our SRO, administrators, and law enforcement partners.”

The incident did not disrupt classes or result in a lock down, district spokesperson Joe Burke said.

Fort Mill Police Department did not immediately respond to request for comment.
