5 Clover High students win best in S.C. in Verizon app challenge
Five Clover High School students have been selected as South Carolina winners in a Verizon Innovative App Challenge and will move on to a regional contest.
Brandon Eish, Tyler DeFalco, Carson Stabell, Dale Trimper and Grant Williams worked together to create a concept they outlined in a three-minute video for their “Crash Helper” app.
The students described their app as “a helpful tool for people who do not know what to do in the event of an accident.” They hope the app will be a tool that can walk the user through the steps following an accident.
The boys and their adviser, computer programming teacher Amy Moss, each will receive an Android tablet. The school will receive a $5,000 grant to be used towards Career and Technology Education courses at Clover High.
The contest had more than 1,200 submissions.
The team now qualifies for the regional portion of the contest, where they will submit a new 30-second video promoting their app and its functions.
The winners of the regional contest will receive a $15,000 grant for their school and an invitation to the national contest this summer in Nashville, Tenn. A team of programmers from Verizon will come to the school to help make the app come to life.
