Rock Hill school equity committee makes its report Monday
The committee formed to study equity issues among Rock Hill’s three high schools will make its report to the school board on Monday.
The report is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Family Trust offices at 225 W. White St. The meeting is part of a two-day school board work session. The board will convene at 3 p.m. Monday to hear the results of a financial audit and a report on high school athletic funding. The board will temporarily suspend its meeting to attend the 4 p.m. parade to honor the championship high school football teams at Northwestern and South Pointe.
The equity committee, made up of parents and students, have been looking at various data to determine if the three high schools are treated equitably.
Recommendations to deal with the differing enrollments at Northwestern, Rock Hill and South Pointe high schools – as well as “similar access to funding” for athletics and other student activities – are expected to be announced Monday.
The two issues were the reasons the Rock Hill school board formed the 15-member committee in August. The board’s decision followed an accountant’s review of activity funds at all three schools.
The Greenville accounting firm of Greene, Finney & Horton found that accounting procedures at the schools were inconsistent. It also found that South Pointe has run deficits in its per-pupil activity accounts for several years.
