South Pointe High students raising funds to attend national competition

Staff reports

The South Pointe High School Business Professionals of America team is accepting donations for its May 5-9 trip to the 2016 National Leadership Conference in Boston.

More than 5,000 students from across the nation have qualified to attend.

South Pointe’s BPA team of Trey Bloom, Noah Kauffman, Ellen Kettlewell and Keegan Weakland participated in the South Carolina Business Professionals of America’s Workplace Skills Assessment event in Columbia in March, winning first place in the web page design team competition.

Individuals also took workplace skills assessments and placed first and second in Business Meeting Management Concepts, first in Fundamental Word Processing, second in Computer Programming Concepts and third for Prepared Speech.

The team is seeking to raise about $2,800. Area business leaders and parents have already paid for conference registration and airfare.

Tax deductible donations can be paid to the school (Memo: BPA NLC Trip), to the attention of Mike Deyton. Mail to South Pointe High School, 801 Neely Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
