York names 2016 school-level teachers of the year

The York school district on Friday named its 2016 school-level Teachers of the Year.

The teachers, schools and their teaching areas are:

▪  Cotton Belt Elementary, Diane Merrell, MERIT

▪  Hickory Grove-Sharon Elementary, Barbara Brunson, fourth grade

▪  Hunter Street Elementary, Maria Bateas, first grade

▪  Harold C. Johnson Elementary, Kristle Mizwa, fourth grade

▪  Jefferson Elementary, Jennifer Cooney, kindergarten

▪  York Intermediate, DeEtta Mann, fifth-grade language arts and social studies

▪  York One Academy, Lindsey Dessecker, math

▪  York Middle, Angie Covington, ITE automation and robotics

▪  York Comprehensive High, Phil Suggs, chorus

▪  Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center, Jane Guerry, business education.

The school-level honorees will be considered for the district Teacher of the Year honor, to be named in August.
