Winthrop to consider raising tuition for 2017-18
Winthrop University students may have to pay more for their classes next year.
Winthrop’s finance committee on Friday will review possible tuition increases for 2017-18, said Judy Longshaw, spokesperson for the university.
The committee will make a recommendation to be voted on by the board of trustees Friday.
The size of the potential increase is not yet known, Longshaw said.
University of South Carolina’s trustees Friday also expected to consider a tuition hike, in the neighborhood of 3.4 percent, sources said.
USC has not announced the size of the proposed increase ahead of Friday’s trustees meeting. However, a 3.4 percent hike would be the largest in six years.
This summer, The Citadel, Coastal Carolina University, College of Charleston and S.C. State University all have OK’d tuition hikes – most in the range of 3 to 3.25 percent.
Winthrop’s board of trustees will meet at 1 p.m. Friday in the Gold Room of the DiGiorgio Campus Center, 2020 Alumni Drive in Rock Hill.
