Busy move-in day for Winthrop freshmen
Winthrop University welcomed new students to campus on Friday morning during a busy freshman move-in day.
School officials say freshman enrollment is up this year with more than 1,000 new students starting class this month. Many of those freshmen students will live on campus, others will commute.
The moving in started early Friday morning with Winthrop staff members and fellow students helping freshmen and their families find parking, room assignments, and their way around campus.
The welcome activities will continue next week with Winthrop’s traditional Convocation event and Blue Line ceremony. New President Dan Mahony will speak at the Convocation ceremony at 3 p.m., held in Byrnes Auditorium. A picnic on the lawn in front of Tillman Hall will follow.
Convocation and the school’s “Welcome Week” entertainment events are open to the public. Convocation is free; some events have admission prices.
