Lawmakers have elected two Winthrop University graduates to six-year terms on the school’s Board of Trustees.

Elected this week were:

▪ Janet Smalley, a 1972 Winthrop graduate from Walhalla, was re-elected to a seat representing the Third Congressional District.

▪ Shane Duncan, a 1998 graduate from Greenville, was elected to the Fourth Congressional District seat, succeeding Trustee Scott Talley, who chose not to seek re-election.

Smalley, a trustee since 2004, is a member of the board’s Executive Committee and chairwoman of its Committee on Compensation. She holds degrees from Winthrop and Clemson universities and has been named Teacher of the Year six times.

The native of Belton is a former Walhalla High School curriculum coordinator and Oconee School District instructional specialist, and has served as a U.S. Department of Education secondary school evaluator.

Duncan is business development manager for M33 Integrated Solutions, a Greenville-based logistics technology and lead logistics provider.

He is a member of the Winthrop Alumni Executive Board and has served on the Rock Hill/York County Alumni Club Board, the Alumni Association nominating committee and with the Winthrop Alumni in Admissions Volunteer group.

Duncan was recognized in 2006 with Winthrop’s Most Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
