Police, firefighters welcome Lewisville state champ team back to Chester County
There was no emergency in the Chester County town of Richburg around midnight Tuesday, but there were plenty of lights and sirens.
The Richburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office helped lead the way for the Lewisville High School baseball team that had won the Class A title a few hours earlier in the Dillon County town of Lake View town.
Eric Hudson was one of the firefighters who drove a truck with lights flashing that led the team bus and its supporters to the school parking lot.
“It was a big deal,” Hudson said.
Deputies were part of the celebration and procession to the school, said Chief Deputy Robert Sprouse.
“In rural communities, it is the school that holds people together, and brings us together,” said Richburg Fire Chief John Agee.
“People from Edgemoor and Lando and Richburg send their kids to Lewisville. When the team wins, we all win,” Agee said.
Firefighters wanted to show their appreciation for the team’s hard work and fans’ support.
“The kids in all the sports here work so hard, and we just wanted to show we appreciate all the work they do to become champs,” said T. Melton, Richburg assistant fire chief.
