Little A gets first boat ride on Chester fishing trip

Sheriff Big “A” Underwood and Little “A” Alex Collins return empty handed from a morning of hunting in 2015.
Sheriff Big “A” Underwood and Little “A” Alex Collins return empty handed from a morning of hunting in 2015.

Little A and Big A hunted and fished together again Friday, as a friendship made over a mistake in December again brought joy to a little boy on his second trip to Chester County.

The two new best friends became well-known after coverage in The Herald when Underwood righted a mistake made by Alex “Little A” Collins and his mother in December. Alex and his mom thought a hunting and fishing program at the Chester sheriff’s office was near their home in Chester County, Pa., so they signed up at the last minute. Alex wrote that his mom was a single parent, and he had nobody to take him hunting and fishing.

But the program was in South Carolina. The Chester, Pa. sheriff, and South Carolina’s Chester County Sheriff Alex Underwood found out about the mistake, and the two sheriffs brought Alex South Carolina for three days of hunting in December that fixed the mix-up. Underwood bought Alex hunting gear and had Little A stay over at his house.

This week during Spring Break Little A came back for turkey hunting, fishing, and his first-ever ride on a boat.

And he will come back, too.
