A convicted killer and serial shoplifter from North Carolina who led police on a 100 MPH chase last year then did not show up for trial was sent to prison for 10 years Tuesday.
Jerry Lee Dickey, 41, who served three years in prison for the 1991 murder of a North Carolina pizza delivery driver, was caught two weeks ago in Gaston County, N.C. after a manhunt by police after Dickey did not show up for trial in May.
Dickey was arrested in 2014 after the chase and theft from a Clover store, but was released on bond pending trial. But he never showed up and was convicted in his absence. Dickey’s sentence from that May conviction was kept under seal until he could be caught and brought back to court.
