South Carolina man says he wasn’t surprised to win lottery game’s seven-digit grand prize

Winning a scratch-off game’s $1 million grand prize was not a surprise to the Palmetto State man who bought the ticket, according to South Carolina Education Lottery officials.

“I knew I was going to hit it big,” the Rock Hill resident said in a news release.

The seven-figure winning Royal Millions ticket was sold for $10 at the Quick Food Mart gas station/convenience store on East Main Street in Rock Hill, according to the release.

Apparently the man had been telling his wife that a big win was coming, and he couldn’t wait to let her know when his premonition became a reality, officials said.

“I called her at work and said, ‘I told you it was coming,’ ” he said.

The odds of winning $1,000,000 playing Royal Millions were 1,560,000-to-1, according to the release.

The man said he and his wife will be using some of the newfound windfall to pay off their home, officials said.

The winner will be allowed to retain some privacy, as South Carolina is one of 11 states — along with Arizona, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, Ohio, Texas and Virginia — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

This was the last of Royal Millions’ four grand prizes to be claimed, and the game is no longer available for purchase, according to the release.

Quick Food Mart received a commission of $10,000 for selling the claimed ticket.
