Man convicted of beating his 87-year-old grandma to death in Oregon gets life in prison
A 47-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison without parole in the killing of his 87-year-old grandmother in Oregon, the sheriff’s office said.
James Lynn Holt is accused of kicking his grandma’s door in and “severely” beating her at her home in Creswell, Oregon, in 2019, the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Holt was sentenced on Monday, March 7, without the possibility of parole.
His grandmother, Sally Baldwin, was taken to the hospital with “significant injuries,” according a 2019 news release from the sheriff’s office.
Holt was initially arrested on an unrelated charge, the sheriff’s office said, but was then charged with first-degree murder when his grandmother died 12 days after the attack.
His grandmother died of injuries related to the assault, officials said.
He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on Dec. 20, deputies said.
Holt was initially charged with raping Baldwin, robbery, burglary and three other counts of first-degree murder, The Register-Guard reported. Those charges were dropped in his plea deal.
He has remained in custody since his arrest in April 2019.
Creswell is about 13 miles south of Eugene.
