Seven children were taken to a hospital after a caretaker returned to a Virginia home to find them exhibiting strange behavior, multiple news outlets reported.

The kids — all under 8 years old — may have overdosed on prescription medications on Wednesday, March 23, according to the Hopewell Police Department.

The department said it was called after four children ages 1 to 4 were found unresponsive. Three other kids were “awake, but were lethargic,” WTVR reported.

All seven kids were taken to Richmond-area hospitals and are expected to be OK, officials said in a news release.

Officers said a woman was babysitting the children when she told another adult in the home that she was taking a trip to a nearby store. When the woman got back, she discovered an empty pill bottle and called 911, WRIC and other TV stations reported.

Police told news outlets a child may have discovered prescription sleeping pills and shared them with the other kids. Child Protective Services is involved, and the investigation was ongoing as of March 24, officials said in their news release.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 804-541-2284. Those wanting to stay anonymous can also call 804-541-2202 or use the P3tips smartphone application.
