19-year-old saves two drowning men as they tried crossing river, Michigan sheriff says
Two men were trying to cross a river in Michigan when they began struggling, authorities said.
As they started to drown, a nearby 19-year-old “heard a commotion,” according to a Facebook post from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. The quick-thinking man from Homer checked out the sounds and found a 36-year-old man and a 42-year-old man overcome in the Kalamazoo River.
He managed to pull both men out of the river at about 3:50 p.m. Friday, June 3, the sheriff’s office said.
The 36-year-old man, also from Homer, was taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said. The 42-year-old Arkansas man was given CPR on scene before he was hospitalized. The man was in critical, but stable, condition as of June 7.
Calhoun County, in south Michigan, is about 115 miles west of Detroit.
