Stuck carnival ride leaves 12 people dangling over county fair, California rescuers say

A stuck carnival ride left 12 people hanging in midair at the Napa Town & Country Fair, California officials told news outlets.

Fire crews called to the fair just after 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, used a ladder to rescue the stranded riders, the Napa Valley Register reported. No injuries were reported.

“I was trying to text my parents but my hands were shaking because it was so cold,” teen Emery Land, who was trapped on the ride, told KGO.

He and friend Brandon DeGraw were among the dozen people stuck on Rampage, a spinning double Ferris wheel, on what was to be its last ride of the night, KGO reported.

The rescue of the riders, who were stranded as high as 70 feet up, took about 30 minutes, the Napa Valley Register said. The ride remained closed Sunday, Aug. 14, the fair’s last day.

The four-day Napa Town & Country Fair also featured live music, livestock exhibits, fair food and a wine lounge, according to its website.

The fair takes place annually in the city of Napa in the Napa Valley north of San Francisco Bay.
