Man targeting and killing homeless women in Nevada has been arrested, police say
A Las Vegas man has been arrested in connection with four stabbings, two of them fatal, of people experiencing homelessness in Nevada.
Christopher Martell was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for open murder on Sept. 21, according to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
On Sept. 20, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of East Flamingo Road after calls of an unresponsive woman, officials said. They found the victim dead with stab wounds.
Martell is also connected to an incident reported in the 3900 block of Algonquin Drive, where a woman was found stabbed to death, according to KSNV.
Police believe that Martell attacked a third woman experiencing homelessness as she was pushing a man in a wheelchair, according to the outlet.
Another homeless woman was stabbed by Martell, police believe, according to KVVU. She is in stable condition.
Authorities honed in on Martell as their suspect by putting cameras around where they believed the attacker was living, LVMPD Capt. Dori Koren said during a news conference.
While being taken into custody, Martell set down a black knife that was wrapped in a black plastic sheet, officials said.
“We don’t know yet in terms of motive, and we won’t be able to discuss the interactions in terms of the interviews at this time because we want to maintain the integrity of prosecution,” Koren said, according to KSNV.
