6-year-old dies days after car hits ATV he was riding with friend, Mississippi cops say
A 6-year-old died and another child was seriously hurt after a car hit the ATV they were riding in Mississippi, deputies told news outlets.
The crash happened Sunday, May 28, on Rehobeth Road in Pelahatchie, WLBT reported, citing the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office.
Family members said Keigan Norwood and his 10-year-old neighbor, Myleigh Dittus, were on an ATV when they were struck by a car, according to a GoFundMe.
Both were airlifted to a hospital, where Keigan died Tuesday, May 30, Rankin County Deputy Coroner Clifton Dunlap told McClatchy News.
He was a student at Pigsah Elementary School, WAPT reported.
“Although Keigan fought hard for several days, he is now resting in the arms of Jesus,” the family’s GoFundMe page reads. “Keigan leaves behind his mother, Virginia, a brother, Martrevious (Tre’), his grandparents, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.”
His friend Myleigh had serious injuries and was placed in the ICU, according to WLBT. Her condition wasn’t known as of May 31.
McClatchy News reached out to Pisgah Elementary School for comment and was awaiting a response.
Authorities didn’t release additional details, including if the driver will face charges.
Pelahatchie is about 30 miles east of Jackson.
