6-year-old falls 20 feet off roller coaster at Florida amusement park, officials say
A child was rushed to the hospital after being found injured under a Florida amusement park roller coaster, paramedics told news outlets.
“On Thursday August 3, 2023 an unfortunate incident happened on the Galaxy Spin Roller Coaster that resulted in a child being injured,” Fun Spot America said in a statement Aug. 4.
The Osceola County Fire Rescue was called to the Kissimmee amusement park around 3 p.m. after reports that a child had fallen from a ride, the department told McClatchy News in an email.
First responders found a 6-year-old underneath a roller coaster track, which stood about 20 feet high, with “traumatic injuries,” the fire department said.
The child was taken to a children’s hospital nearby, according to the fire department.
Fun Spot America, which operates amusement parks in Kissimmee, Orlando and Atlanta, said the ride had been closed since the accident and would not reopen until it was “100% sure this will not happen again,” according to the statement.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services told WESH it would conduct an investigation.
“The FDACS has inspected the ride and found it to be in normal operating condition with no mechanical issues,” the park said. “They also found the ride was operated following all safety procedures and guidelines outlined by the manufacture(r) and industry standards.”
Kissimmee is about 20 miles south of Orlando.
