Neighbor shot woman over barking dogs, Georgia cops say. Now she’s going to prison

A Georgia woman accused of shooting her neighbor in a dispute over barking dogs is set to spend nearly 30 years behind bars, court documents show.
Fonda Spratt, 57, was sentenced to 65 years with 27 to be served in prison, according to documents obtained by McClatchy News. The remaining 38 years will be served on probation.
Spratt’s sentencing comes after she pleaded guilty to multiple charges — including two counts of attempted murder and home invasion — stemming from a shooting in Flowery Branch last year.
On Nov. 29, 2022, officers responded to a report of someone shot and found a woman “with multiple gunshot wounds” standing in the road, according to the city’s police department. She had been hit twice and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators said they learned the shooter, later identified as Spratt, had forced her way into her neighbor’s home to complain about her barking dogs and then shot her.
“This is incredibly unfortunate and could’ve ended in catastrophic results,” Flowery Branch Police Chief Christopher Hulsey said at the time. “There could have been more innocent individuals injured or killed.”
Police didn’t release the victim’s identity.
Under the terms of her sentence, Spratt must also complete 40 hours of community service, seek mental health treatment and reimburse her neighbor for treatment expenses up to $2,000, court documents show.
Flowery Branch is about 45 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
