Poodle got loose along busy Florida interstate. 10 days later, a rescue has good news
A miniature poodle got loose along a busy Florida interstate — then an animal rescue received good news.
The 3-year-old dog was found safe more than a week after she went missing at a rest stop. Gilda was traveling on Interstate 10 when she broke free and crossed from one side of the highway to the other, according to the Florida Poodle Rescue organization.
Gilda was last seen Oct. 14 in Baker County, setting off a dayslong search west of Jacksonville. The elusive dog was spotted but not caught, leaving the organization scrambling to get in touch with someone about installing a trap, according to Facebook posts.
“Drone search of 250+ acres found no signs of Gilda,” the Florida Poodle Rescue wrote Oct. 21. “There are multiple employees along I-10 that saw the posters and know Gilda is lost.”
Then on Oct. 24, the rescue shared that Gilda had been found 10 days after she vanished. Several social media users expressed relief and joy that she made it to safety after being flushed out of the “deep woods.”
“Miracles do happen,” the organization wrote as it posted a photo of the curly-haired pup.
Florida Poodle Rescue, which is based in St. Petersburg, didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Oct. 25.
