Moms start fist fight on elementary school bus dropping off kids, Florida video shows
What started as an argument over a toy between elementary school students ended with their mothers physically fighting on a Florida school bus, according to deputies.
A school bus from Mills Creek Elementary School was dropping students off at a Kissimmee apartment complex when two of the students were arguing, according to an incident report from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
The two students were fighting over a toy, deputies said, when the bus pulled up to the stop.
The students’ mothers, who were not identified by deputies, forced their way onto the bus as the children fought.
The parents were not authorized to be on the bus, the Osceola School District told McClatchy News in an email.
A video posted on Instagram by the account @morethanaartist showed the moment the two women yelled at one another and then started to throw punches.
In the video, the children on the bus begin screaming and one child yells out, “Mommy, no!”
A bus attendant pulls the students toward the back of the bus, and the bus driver and another man try to separate the women, putting one in a headlock, the video showed.
“The parents of the two students took it upon themselves to insert themselves into a harmless dispute between children and made it about themselves turning the innocent dispute into a violent physical altercation that made both the children and staff members on board the school bus run towards the back of the bus and cower in fear,” deputies said in the incident report.
Deputies said the school district provided the students’ information to help identify their mothers, and they were both charged with disturbing a school function and affray, or fighting in a public place to the terror of others, according to the incident report.
“To maintain a safe and orderly environment for everyone, it is essential that we all understand the importance of respecting the boundaries of our school buses and recognizing that they are the property of the school district,” the Osceola School district told McClatchy News. “If parents need to communicate with the driver or address any concerns related to the school bus, they should contact their school’s administration or the Transportation Department.”
Kissimmee is about 20 miles south of Orlando.
