Paraglider leaps off top of mountain and crashes into icy slope, Wyoming rescuers say
A young paraglider tried flying off the top of a mountain but came crashing back down onto the icy slope, Wyoming rescuers said.
The injured 21-year-old Teton County resident was hauled out of the backcountry from the belly of a helicopter on Nov. 20, rescuers said on Facebook.
The crash happened about three-quarters of the way up the main ski run below the gondola on the summit of Snow King Mountain in Jackson around 1 p.m., Teton County Search and Rescue said.
It wasn’t possible for a helicopter to land on the steep, icy north-facing slope, so rescuers strapped the injured paraglider to a helicopter’s belly for the short flight out of the backcountry to an ambulance waiting at the base of the mountain, officials said.
Information about the paraglider’s condition was not provided.
