Hiker dies on mountain as guide and EMT try to revive him for an hour, NY officials say

A New York City man died while hiking in the Adirondack Mountains over the holiday weekend, officials said.

The man, a 49-year-old from Queens, was climbing Sawteeth Mountain — located about 120 miles north of Albany — around 10 a.m. on Nov. 25 when he lost consciousness for unspecified reasons, officials said.

His guide began administering CPR, and a passing paramedic later assisted, according to a news release from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

The pair attempted to revive the man for an hour but were unsuccessful.

A forest ranger helped carry the man off the mountain and transported him to the Essex County Coroner, officials said.

Officials did not identify the man or the cause of death.
