A 30-year-old jet skier died after crashing into a rock wall at a Utah state park reservoir, rangers say.

Benjamin Paul Rosser, of Salt Lake City, was riding a jet ski alone the evening of Wednesday, May 22, when he crashed at the reservoir’s west side at East Canyon State Park, Utah State Parks said in a May 23 news release.

After hearing the crash, a nearby fisherman “saw the wreckage and immediately called for help,” rangers said.

Rangers said they made their way to Rosser, who was wearing a life jacket at the time of the crash, on a patrol boat.

Rosser died from his injuries, rangers said.

“The Utah Division of State Parks extends our condolences to Rosser’s family and friends,” rangers said.

Rangers said they are investigating the crash.

East Canyon State Park, tucked away “in the mountains northeast of Salt Lake City,” is a popular place for outdoor activities, including boating, fishing and camping, according to the travel website Utah.com.
