A senior dog lost his longtime owner — then came a heartwarming adoption.

Peaches landed at the Florida Poodle Rescue, where he needed a volunteer who had experience caring for dogs with seizures. He was matched with an dedicated foster parent who later decided to adopt him, according to the animal organization.

The man knew “finding a home for a senior dog with seizures is not easy and that a stable environment is a must for ‘seizure dogs.’ He didn’t want him to have to adjust to a new home,” rescuers wrote May 25 in a Facebook post.

Peaches’ journey at the Florida Poodle Rescue actually started 10 years ago, when he was adopted “to an owner who took excellent care of him.” But after the owner died, Peaches returned to the rescue and needed a new home.

“Because Peaches’ dad had been ill for a while, he had not been very socialized and didn’t know how to properly walk on a leash,” the animal organization wrote.

So, his foster dad spent months “patiently” helping Peaches adjust. The man also reportedly knew what to expect when Peaches — who had a history of seizures — experienced an episode in the early days of his stay.

Eventually, Peaches settled into the home and the man made the adoption official.

“Congratulations to the new family,” the rescue wrote as dozens of social media users chimed in to say they loved the touching story.

The Florida Poodle Rescue didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on May 28. The organization has a presence in St. Petersburg, near Tampa.
