4-year-old found dead in Minnesota creek after going missing from apartment, cops say
A 4-year-old boy was found dead after he went missing from his apartment, Minnesota police say.
Waeys Mohamed wandered away from his apartment building on June 9, Hopkins Police Capt. Craig Kreiling said at a June 10 news conference streamed by KMSP.
A missing person alert went out to residents within a certain radius of where Waeys went missing June 9, officials said.
Authorities and community members searched for Waeys for over 24 hours.
“At approximately 10:40 a.m., Ways was located by an individual that was helping to look for him. He was located in Minnehaha Creek approximately 500 yards downstream from his apartment building,” Kreiling said.
“While we believe this is a tragic accident, we will be continuing our investigation,” he said.
Police said an official cause of death has not been released, but they believe Waeys drowned.
“This is a horrible, tragic accident from everything that we are able to determine,” Kreiling said.
Hopkins is about a 10-mile drive southwest of Minneapolis.
