Puppy gets trapped after 3-story fall in vent of Colorado home. See ‘harrowing’ rescue

When a 12-week-old Pekingese named Archie Bean leaped from a bed on the third story of his Colorado townhome, he went right through an open floor vent.

The Douglas County puppy was nowhere to be seen on Tuesday, June 11, according to a Facebook post from South Metro Fire Rescue.

After his fall, Archie’s owner speaks through the floor vent as he can be heard whining, a video of the “harrowing ordeal” posted by the fire station shows.

“Yes. Come get your treats, baby,” she says. “I wish I could see you.”

When firefighters arrived, rescuers said “they could hear Archie’s whimpers echoing throughout the house.”

“It felt like we could hear him everywhere,” the owner said.

The 5-pound puppy sat trapped as rescuers tried to pinpoint where he had fallen, sawing holes in the home’s walls and ceilings to access the ducts.

Feeding a camera through a hole, rescuers said they tried to find Archie’s exact location.

“Oh, that’s him right there,” a rescuer says while feeding the camera through the hole.

Rescuers tracked Archie to the basement.

After opening one of the ducts, Archie’s fluffy head pops out.

“There he is,” rescuers can be heard saying in the video. “There we go.”

A rescuer reaches into the duct, gingerly pulling Archie out.

“Oh my baby!” the owner says as the rescuer hands her Archie. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”

Archie was trapped for more than three hours, according to rescuers.

“Everybody who’s here … you guys made a miracle today,” the owner says.

Douglas County is about a 40-mile drive south from Denver.
