Mom accused of drowning 2 toddlers after report of kids in cardiac arrest, cops say
A mom in New Jersey has been charged with murder in the death of her two toddlers, officials said.
On June 25, Lakewood Township Police responded to 27-year-old Naomi Elkins’ home after getting a report of two kids in cardiac arrest, according to a June 26 news release by Ocean County prosecutors.
Officers found Hatzolah Medical Services performing life saving measures on the kids ages 1 and 3, officials said.
The efforts weren’t successful, and the children were pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Investigators learned the 1-year-old had been stabbed and both children had been drowned, prosecutors said.
The children had been drowned in the home’s bathtub, NBC 10 reported.
Elkins was taken into custody and transported to Ocean County Jail on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.
Officials didn’t specify what led to the drownings.
Lakewood Township is about a 40-mile drive southeast of Trenton.
