15-year-old dies after being swept away while playing in water with family, cops say

An Indiana teen was found dead after being swept away in an Illinois river, according to officials.

At 10:16 a.m. on June 29, authorities were called to the Wabash River southeast of West Union for reports of a juvenile in distress, according to a Facebook post by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A 15-year-old playing in the river with family members was swept away by a current, officials said. The teen was seen going under the water.

Search teams looked for the teen, and people with personal boats, residents and businesses helped in the search.

Around 2:05 p.m., the teens body was found, according to officials.

The teen’s identity has not been released.

West Union is a 130-mile drive southeast of Springfield.
