A pickup truck and boat trailer vanished underwater in a lake on the Fourth of July, and the owner was arrested, California Highway Patrol officers reported.

After a day of boating, a man drove his truck and trailer to the water at Lake Sonoma to recover his boat at about 10:40 p..m., the CHP said in a July 5 news release.

The truck and trailer were pulled into the water and sank, officers said. The CHP called it an “expensive day at the lake.”

While talking with the driver, officers noticed he seemed intoxicated and arrested him, the CHP said. He faces charges of driving and boating under the influence.

Lake Sonoma is about an 80-mile drive northwest of San Francisco.
