A 28-year-old high school track coach was arrested after California officials said a mom found inappropriate texts between him and her daughter.

Aaron Raya, the Godinez High School track coach, football coach and substitute teacher, messaged the girl through social media to talk about track events, according to a July 14 Facebook post from the Santa Ana Police Department.

After the girl graduated, Raya started messaging her in a “sexual manner and attempted to meet with her,” police said.

Police later learned there were two other minor victims who were former students that Raya messaged inappropriately, officials said.

“Santa Ana Unified School District is cooperating with the Santa Ana Police Department following the arrest of a suspect who served as a coach and substitute teacher at Godinez Fundamental High School,” a spokesperson for the school district told McClatchy News in a statement. “We understand that this news may be concerning to our community. We take all allegations of misconduct very seriously, and the safety and well-being of our students is always our top priority.

“This individual has been immediately placed on leave and removed from our substitute list,” the spokesperson said.

Raya was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on sex-related charges, officials said.

Raya joined Godinez High School in 2021, according to a post from the school on X, formerly Twitter.

Police believe there might be more victims and ask anyone with information to call 714-245-8346, officials said.

Santa Ana is about a 30-mile drive southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
