‘Sweet’ cat with cancer kept returning to shelter. Then she got a second chance
A “sweet” cat with cancer kept returning to a shelter — then she got a second chance.
Furry Nation Salvation, a Florida animal rescue, shared the heartwarming news that the three-legged cat has a new home.
“We know Promise is in the best hands,” the Daytona Beach-area organization wrote July 23 in a Facebook post. “She will be loved for the rest of her life. And, she will not be failed again.”
Promise, once known as Violet, started her journey toward adoption in February. Her owner of four years surrendered her after discovering she had cancer, the rescue said in past social media posts.
“She was adopted and returned twice before we rescued her from the shelter,” the animal rescue wrote, adding that it changed her name to “Promise as we promised to never give up on her, no matter what.”
Furry Nation Salvation said Promise was “thin and very weak,” making rescuers fear the worst. After confirming that Promise had a mass on one of her hind legs, it had to be amputated.
“Isn’t it amazing how resilient she is, how sweet and loving she is after all this, and how brave she is?!” the rescue wrote in April.
Promise also received a vaccine “to help her body have a better chance of not ever seeing cancer again.” Then in June, the animal organization shared the emotional update that Promise finished cancer treatments. More good news came when she was adopted.
It turns out, her new mom “is no stranger to cancer. She’s battled it, just like Promise.” And her owner also is familiar with pets who have lost their legs.
Now, Promise is “adjusting to her new environment and new three legged sisters,” the rescue wrote.
Furry Nation Salvation didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on July 24. The rescue has a presence in Port Orange, south of Daytona Beach.
