Elderly horse trapped in Colorado creek with 12-foot-high embankments. See the rescue
An elderly horse was trapped in a Colorado creek with embankments taller than most home ceilings, photos show.
First responders with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and Boulder Emergency Services dragged the exhausted horse up the 12-foot-high embankmenton Monday, July 29, Mountain View Fire Rescue said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
It appears they hoisted the horse up the embankment using a pulley system with a tarp underneath his body, photos show.
Photos show veterinarians caring for the horse once he was out of the creek. In one photo, the horse is up and standing with his right front leg wrapped up below the knee.
He walked back to his stall to rest after the rescue, officials said.
Rescue officials didn’t say how the horse ended up in the creek, how long he was stuck there, or whether his leg was injured in the ordeal. Information about the horse’s age was not available.
Earlier this month, another horse was rescued from a fast-flowing canal about 60 miles north in Fort Collins, McClatchy News previously reported. The blind horse was too tired to get herself out.
Boulder is about a 30-mile drive northwest from Denver.
