A Philadelphia shelter is bringing attention to one of their long-term residents — a dog who has been in mourning for over a year.

Cake Batter, a 7-year-old terrier mix, has experienced more than his fair share of heartbreak. He was originally rescued from a dog-fighting operation by an Animal Law Enforcement team and found a home with an owner who adored him, his Pennsylvania SPCA profile says.

Unfortunately, tragedy hit Cake Batter yet again.

“After being saved by our Animal Law Enforcement team, Cake Batter found a loving owner who cherished him, but that happiness was cut tragically short when he passed away.”

“For over a year now, this gentle senior boy has been waiting and hoping for a forever home. His journey has been anything but easy.”

Now the shelter is hoping for a second chance for the pup with “a loving soul.”

“Now, all Cake Batter has are memories of the love he once knew and a longing for a warm lap to curl up in,” the shelter says.

As of Aug. 5, he is still listed available for adoption. For more information on Cake Batter and other adoptable pets, visit the Pennsylvania SPCA website.
