Lightning strikes pregnant teen and an 18-year-old inside tent, Indiana cops say
A burst of lightning struck a pregnant teenager and an 18-year-old while they were inside a tent, Indiana deputies said.
The nine-months-pregnant teenager, whose age was not specified, was with the 18-year-old man in a tent outside of their Country Squire Lakes residence on Aug. 2 when the strike barreled down, according to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office.
There is less than a one in a million chance of getting struck by lightning in a given year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If struck, though, there is a 90% chance the victims survive.
The two were rushed to the hospital and were in stable yet serious condition as of Aug. 3, deputies said.
The teen’s unborn child also survived the lightning strike, deputies said.
Country Squire Lakes is about a 60-mile drive southeast of Indianapolis.
