Anxious as he spent his days in a Wisconsin humane society, Kenneth turned into a “couch potato” while in a foster home.

Now, the 9-year-old dog who spent more than 500 days available for adoption has a new home to enjoy his favorite activity — sleeping.

Kenneth arrived at the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin in March 2023, and the mixed-breed pup eventually became the longest resident at the center. Though most shelter dogs are adopted within 17 days, Kenneth had to wait 17 months, the shelter said.

Described as a “sweetheart,” Kenneth was his best self while in a foster home. He would bird watch and watch television, all while making time for his multiple naps per day.

It was at his foster home where Kenneth thrived, a big contrast from his anxious personality while in the shelter, according to the humane society.

“He spends most of his time lounging around and only gets up ...to ask for a few pets, get some food, and to go outside to do his business,” the shelter said of the “sweet old man” dog. “Then he goes right back to lounging.”

After many updates about Kenneth over his 500-plus days in the shelter and foster care, the humane society finally shared good news about the lovable dog Aug. 9.

“We are SO EXCITED to update this post! Kenneth has been ADOPTED!!!!!!!!!!” the shelter said. “Congratulation to him and his forever family.”

The shelter hopes Kenneth’s new home will allow him to “shine” and “really let his personality blossom.”

The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin is in Janesville, about 75 miles southwest from Milwaukee.
