A 72-year-old woman was lying in bed the morning of Aug. 7 when a stray bullet flew through her room and struck her in the head, ultimately killing her, Oklahoma police said.

Someone noticed the injured woman, still in bed, around 6:45 p.m. that evening, Oklahoma City police said. They saw a wound, initially believed to be a laceration, on Kathleen Cade’s head and called police.

Cade was rushed to the hospital where staff discovered the wound was caused by a gunshot, police said.

The retired teacher died Aug. 14 due to the gunshot wound, according to police and news outlets.

“Miss Kathy was a very, very nice, she was a retired teacher,” her neighbor Geo Martinez told KWTV. “Yeah, no way she had any enemies at all.”

No one has been arrested, but police are continuing to investigate.
