A man died after falling on “rocky” terrain while climbing with his friend, Washington officials said.

The 36-year-old, whom police didn’t identify, was climbing Del Campo Peak when he fell 40 to 50 feet the morning of Monday, Aug. 19, according to an Aug. 20 Facebook post by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies didn’t specify what led to the man’s fall.

His friend tried performing ”life-saving measures” but wasn’t successful, officers said.

The man’s body was airlifted before the Snohomish County Medical Examiner took his remains to identify him and determine his cause of death, officers said.

Snohomish County is about a 50-mile drive northeast of Seattle.
